Why Aussies Don’t Give a Toss About Tennis Stars’ Complaints Over Strict COVID-19 Protocols
Hint: we’re happy keeping our rates of infection low
I love tennis. I particularly love watching the Australian Open. It’s the only time our TV is on all day long because the clops of balls hitting rackets is music to my ears even when I’m not watching intently — I even wrote about how watching tennis enhances my productivity.
What I don’t love are the recent complaints of tennis players over strict COVID-19 protocols here in Australia ahead of the Australian Open.
To date, 72 players from three separate flights are confined to their rooms for 14 days because they were on flights with people who have since tested positive for COVID-19.
Alize Cornet was among the first to complain, taking to Twitter to express her frustration and stating that:
‘Soon, half of the players from the AO will actually have to isolate. Weeks and weeks of practice and hard work going to waste for one person positive to COVID in a 3/4 empty plane. Sorry but this is insane.’
What’s actually insane is tennis players thinking they deserve special treatment and the ability to disregard rules that keep Australians (and players’ own staff and fellow competitors)…
