I think it’s good to be okay with heartfelt pieces not having a whole lot of success and to keep writing them, but if the goal is to make money to recognize that you also need to write about things that will reach a bigger audience. Some of my more personal pieces haven’t been all that successful but they’ve also resonated strongly with a handful of people, which is sometimes enough (for me, anyway).
